Advertising is not for people who want to go unnoticed. It’s for people who want to be heard, people who want to make an impact on the world around them. People who can channel their creativity and ideas towards making brands (and eventually themselves) famous.

It’s hard work, but you’ll get a satisfaction not enjoyed by many: you’ll get to see your work on public display. Imagine driving out for dinner with your friends, and seeing your idea blown up into a huge 40-foot billboard. Or opening your Facebook to find your friends sharing a video that was actually created by you. How cool is that?!

Advertising is for people who don’t want to be stuck in a boring 9-to-5 routine. In a typical ad agency, no two days are the same. Imagine working with a telco in the morning, a sexy cosmetics brand in the afternoon and a beer brand at night. There are lots of balls to juggle, and keeping them up in the air will keep you on your toes. Everyday brings a fresh adrenaline rush, and your learning curve will be a steep one.

The Graduate Fellowship Programme is designed by the 4As to attract top talent, train them to meet industry expectations and launch them into successful advertising careers.

The programme consists of job placement at a 4As member agency in the daytime, and training at 95% The Advertising Academy at night. This combination of industry exposure and practical skills training accelerates your development.

Not for the faint-hearted, it’s a roller-coaster ride inside a pressure cooker that ensures that you emerge stronger, sharper, and ready to succeed in the advertising world. No scrambling around finding your feet like other freshies.

Sponsoring Agencies of previous intakes say that when compared to the average fresh graduate, Fellows are :

  • 47% better at Idea Generation
  • 46% better at contributing to brainstorms
  • 32% better at critical thinking
  • 27% better in presentation skills

Getting in to the ad industry isn’t that difficult. But once you are in, it may be tough for a fresh graduate to cope with the fast pace and the challenging demands. This programme is meant to equip you to perform well and succeed.

How the Graduate Fellowship Programme works
A challenging and intense 3-month programme that will push you to the limits of your abilities and make a polished professional out of you. You will undergo on-the-job industry training in the daytime and skills in the night, all while being paid a competitive allowance.

The Job
You will report for work at a Sponsoring Agency for the duration of the programme. This is not an internship. Sponsoring Agencies are making an investment in you with an eye to hiring you upon the successful completion of this programme. Expectations are very high, so be ready to be thrown into the deep end and start contributing from day one.

The Training
You will be attending training 3 days a week, from 6.30pm to 10pm. You may be wondering why you need to go for additional training. After all you’ve just graduated from university.

Let’s be clear. Work is nothing like university. For most, the transition for university to work can be like being thrown into the deep end to sink or swim.

To ease this transition, the 4As has worked with 95% The Advertising Academy to create a programme that will help you bridge the gap between school and work by developing your strategic thinking and creative thought leadership skills to complement your academic knowledge. You will be working on projects the way professionals work on it. As you attend the training concurrently with work, it will enhance your understanding of the work processes.

The Money
You will get a Fellowship Allowance of RM2,000 per month. Your training fee of RM5,500 will be completely sponsored by the 4As and the ad agency that selects you. You just need to contribute your passion, determination, courage and sweat. Think you can do that?

A Summary of the benefits you’ll enjoy

No need to job hunt
If you are shortlisted, you will have interviews with three Sponsoring Agencies set up for you. You won’t have to run around sending out job applications and interviewing all over town.

Be mentored by industry leaders
The programme enjoys great support from industry movers and shakers. Expect to rub shoulders with Executive Creative Directors, Account Directors and Strategic Planning Directors as they give generously of their time to share their knowledge and expertise with you.

Earn while you learn
Not only is your training completely sponsored, you will also receive a generous allowance of RM2,000 a month while undergoing your Fellowship.

Job skills
What’s a job req and how do you fill it up? What are insights and how can you find them? How do you start thinking of ideas? If you don’t know the answers, don’t worry. You’ll be well briefed on basic job skills so that you won’t be blur on the first day of work.

How to qualify
We welcome applications from graduates who are:

  1. Malaysian
  2. Degree holders with at least a 2nd Upper or 3.3 CGPA* in any discipline, advertising as well as non-advertising related.
  3. Creative thinkers who have passion and an eye for extraordinary ideas
  4. Responsible, with strong leadership qualities
  5. Good problem-solvers
  6. Fluent in written and spoken English
  7. Strong in Extra-curricular activities
  8. Ready for full time commitment starting 4th August 2014

*exceptions may be made for graduates who are exceptionally talented, articulate and savvy.

How to Apply

We are looking for Copywriters, Account Executives, Strategic Planning Executives, Designers and Programmers/Creative Technologists.

  1. Submit your CV and/or portfolio, position that you’re interested in and an essay titled ‘Why I want to be in advertising’ to 95% The Advertising Academy.
  2. Email your application to Janet Lee at grad.fellowship@95percent.com.my.
  3. If you impress us, you will be asked to attend an interview with 95%. At this interview, you will be asked to do several tests on-the-spot.
  4. If you are shortlisted, you will be interviewed by the sponsoring Agency. If the Agency is impressed and decides to accept you, you are in the Graduate Fellowship Programme.

 

If you meet (or surpass) expectations, the sponsoring agency has the first option to hire you at a salary that matches your ability.
