A Shot of Presentation Skills for Art-Based Creatives
Being gifted in art usually means that the right side of the brain is more developed than the left. However, speaking is a left-brained activity. Hence it is no wonder that many Art Directors find it a challenge to present and explain their work. This workshop will provide them with the guidance and practice they need to express themselves clearly in front of an audience.
Module 1 : Getting comfortable in front of the audience
It’s hard to get your point across and inspire confidence when you’re a nervous wreck. So the first module is all about becoming comfortable in front of an audience. Learn to be comfortable being yourself, learn to use your voice and eye contact to your advantage, and you will soon speak with clarity and confidence in front of an audience.
Module 2 : Understanding Your Audience
Who will you be speaking to and what do you want them to take away from your presentation? You’ll discover that different people process information differently depending on whether they are visual, auditory or kinesthetic. Once you know how people absord information, you’ll be able to figure out the best way to deliver the message to your audience.
Module 3 : Presenting Visuals
As an art-based person, you’ll probably be called on to present your work, which could involve visuals. Holding on to the visuals can add to the feeling of awkwardness while you’re making a presentation. We will look at how you can hold and handle visuals professionally, so that they add to, not detract from your presentation.
Module 4 : Bring your storyboard to life
You’ll probably also be presenting lots of storyboards. However, that exciting scene you can see in head may not look so exciting in storyboard form. In this session, you’ll learn how to tell an engaging story and bring it to life.
Module 5 : Amplify your presence
The most impactful speakers are somehow larger than life. You’ll learn different ways to amplify your presence so that you can make an impact on the audience.
Module 6 : Practice, practice, practice
Finally you’ll practice, practice and practic your new skills until they feel natural to you, so that you’ll be confident the next time you’re asked to make a presentation.
